What is the Census?

The census is a count of everyone living in the United States every 10 years, as mandated by the U.S. Constitution.  The next census is in 2010.

5 Reasons to Make Sure You’re Counted.

Important.  Participating in the Census helps to provide funding for schools, hospitals and roads in Tulare County.  Every year, $400 billion in federal funds is distributed to states and communities based on Census data.  Census data is used to make decisions about what community services to provide.
Easy.  10 questions take less than 10 minutes to complete.
Safe.  All responses are protected by federal law and cannot be shared with any other agency or person, including the Internal Revenue Service and Immigration.
For Everyone.  Everyone is counted, regardless of citizenship or immigration status.
Coming Soon.  Census questionnaires will be mailed in March 2010.  Census Day is April 1, 2010.  Areas in the county that do not have street address mail delivery will be visited by Census takers in person.
