August 11, 2025, Pixley, CA — In collaboration with the Tulare County Association of Governments, Caltrans today broke ground on the $167.6 million State Route 99 Delano to Pixley Mainline Improvement Project. The project will enhance safety, improve mobility and support the efficient movement of goods through this heavily traveled corridor in Tulare County.
“Coupled with the recent completion of the Tagus Six-Lane project north of the City of Tulare, this effort marks another meaningful step toward relieving congestion, addressing capacity needs, and improving travel along State Route 99 in Tulare and Kern Counties,” said Caltrans District 6 Director Michael Navarro. “Together, these projects reflect our commitment to delivering a safer, more reliable, and more efficient transportation network throughout the Central Valley.”
Approximately 15 miles of State Route 99 will see increased capacity, expanding from a four-lane freeway configuration to a six-lane freeway between Cecil Avenue in the City of Delano (Kern County) to approximately one mile north of Court Street in Pixley (Tulare County). The project will also rehabilitate the existing lanes within the project limits. The new configuration enhances safety through the corridor by allowing for smoother traffic flow and improved visibility for both passenger and freight traffic.
Funding for the State Route 99 Delano to Pixley Mainline Improvement Project includes:
- $84.1 million – State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP)
- $11.4 million – Senate Bill 1 (SB 1)
